Why STEAM?STEAM education is the idea of using Science and Technology interpreted through Engineering and the Arts, all based in Mathematical elements.
STEAM aims to spark an interest and life long love of the arts and sciences. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) are similar disciplines in that all involve creative processes and none uses just one method for inquiry and investigation. Teaching relevant, in demand skills that will prepare students to become innovators in an ever evolving world is paramount, not only for the future of our students but for the future of the country. STEAM Team Procedures
In February, the Steam team will have an informational parent meeting for students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. The meeting will inform parents on the selection process and expectations of the program. Students currently serving on the STEAM team will be available for questions and will share their own experiences. Parents and students must attend the meeting or schedule an informational meeting with a STEAM Team representative in order to receive an application to the program.
Applications will be collected at the beginning of March and interviews will be scheduled subsequently after that time. For each grade level, 52 students will be selected for placement (approximately 156 students school wide). Decisions will be made and announced at the end of April (after testing.) After selections are made, no further applications will be accepted for that current year. A waiting list will be made from the initial applicants which will remain in use until the 6 week mark.
Students accepted for the STEAM Team will be dismissed only during the first 6 week mark, unless otherwise requested by the parent. After the 6 week mark, only students on the waiting list, will be interviewed to fill any open positions. After this period no further students will be selected even if positions become available.
